Gift Aid questions, answered.

What is Gift Aid software?

Gift Aid software records donor declarations, links donated items to the donors who gave them and prepares your claims to HMRC. It replaces paper forms and manual data entry. In CharityStore, it's built into the till, so Gift Aid is captured as part of each sale.
Does CharityStore submit Gift Aid claims to HMRC?

Yes. We've worked on Gift Aid since 2008, and CharityStore's Gift Aid module was developed in line with HMRC guidelines. It records every eligible sale, notifies the donor and lets you submit claims online through the HMRC portal, so nobody has to compile claims by hand.
How much can Gift Aid add to the value of donated goods?

Up to 25%. When a donor signs up to Gift Aid, the charity can claim an extra 25p from HMRC for every £1 their donated item sells for. The hard part is linking each item to its donor, and that's the job Gift Aid software at the till does for you.
What's the difference between Standard and Advanced Gift Aid?

With Standard Gift Aid, the volunteer marks the item as Gift Aided, picks its category, enters the price and scans the donor's ID barcode. With Advanced Gift Aid, one label holds the item, price and donor, so the volunteer scans a single barcode. It's quicker, removes keying errors and works for items sold in store, online or on eBay.
Can donors sign up for Gift Aid electronically?

Yes. With Electronic Donor Sign-up, donors register on a tablet in store, at a donation station, at events or on door-to-door collections. There are no paper declarations to store, donors get a confirmation email straight away, and if HMRC asks for a declaration you can find it by searching the donor's name.
